Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Abdul Mutallab

Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Abdul Mutallab CON, prominent business leader, banker, chartered and certified accountant, with many years of experience in development, commercial and merchant banking, is a director on the board of Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.

Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Abdul Mutallab, one of Nigeria’s most respected bankers, was former Minister for Economic Development in 1975 and of Cooperatives and Supplies in 1976. He served as a member of Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council from 1975 to 1978. He was former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, the oldest and biggest bank in Nigeria. He was also the former Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the United Bank for Africa. He is the current Chairman of Jaiz Bank International Plc.

His extensive experience of serving on the Board of Directors of several companies such as Nigeria Agip Oil, Arewa Textile Limited, Nigerian Communications Commission and other organizations has been invaluable to IHVN, a local organization mitigating the spread of HIV and other infectious diseases.

Alhaji Mutallab, who holds the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), one of the highest national honors in Nigeria, was also the chair of Business Support Group (BSG), an arm of Vision 20: 2020, which is one of the corner stones of the economic policies of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He is a graduate of South-West London College, Achimota College, Accra and Barewa College, Zaria. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Benue State University, Makurdi.

Alhaji Mutallab is happily married with children.
