Charles Maina Wanjiru

Charles Maina is co-founder of Revalue Waste Kenya Ltd, which works with hotels to divert waste from the largest dump-site in East Africa called Dandora. In 2007, Charles helped established Child Peace in Kenya, which is committed to improving the lives of children and youth in informal settlements by creating study centers, a children radio program, and a children’s magazine. Charles understands the intricate relationship between business and the environment and wants to help businesses in Kenya meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the welfare of future generations. Charles Maina Wanjiru is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a degree in Education as well as a post-graduate diploma in Community Development from the same university. As a Washington Fellow, Charles hopes to learn how recycling waste can be used to provide financial gains and professional opportunities for youth. In addition, he’d like to learn how to best use market forces to leverage environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and resource depletion that are facing Africa today.
