Dr. Lydia Kilani

Dr Lydia Kilani holds MBChB from the University of Cape Town.

FCS (college of surgeons South Africa)- Wits

Dr Lydia is a trailblazer in the male-dominated field of general surgery. She is one of the first few black female general surgeons to open and run a practice in the private healthcare space. She’s the founder of Maboneng Centre for women’s health, which focusses on female surgical services. She also runs a fully functional general surgical practice at Wilgeheuwel hospital where she manages cancers, hernias, breast and thyroid disorders amongst other. She’s highly skilled in laparoscopic, open and endoscopic procedures. She has travelled across Africa to war-torn areas to provide trauma and acute surgical care to military personnel as part of UN and EU missions. She’s done all of this while being a mom and wife! Her passion is palpable and genuine love for surgery is apparent. Her dream is to leave her mark in the surgery world that will inspire other young girls.
