Mapule Ncanywa

Mapule Ncanywa joined Naspers in November 2020 as Head of Naspers Labs, a Social Impact Programme focused in interventions targeting Youth unemployment. She is a former Chairperson of the Food Beverages SETA, a former council member in the establishment ofa Retail Chair role at the University of Stelleboch with the Services Seta. She is also currently a Board Member of the Food Beverages serving in the Executive Committee.Prior to joining Naspers, Mapule led the Non AlcoholicBeverages industry advocating against the implementation of a SSB tax. Her earlier career journey included 6 years with the Consumer Goods industry where she served as General Manager for Corporate Services for the Consumer Goods Council of SA and 14 years at Microsoft in several roles including public sector Business Development. She managed the Microsoft’s first tech youth internship program, a program which she was a beneficiary and graduated from.She holds a BA (Education, Criminology) from the University of the North. She IS active with several social and human rights engagements. Mapule is a Lifetime Board Member of the International Alliance of Women, a UN affiliate organization; and Board Member and Treasurer of the Mmabatho Foundation for Women Development where she moderated a Side Roundtable theme —”It takes the whole village to end violence against women and children”—at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in 2013. She has consulted and collaborated with government, social organisations, civil societies, private organisations, NGOs and society about issues relating to gender inequality, sexuality and gender violence. Mapule has developed programmes for interventions to support rural women-led organisations driving empowerment, protection of women and children’s rights and rural development.
