Nomonde Gongxeka Seopa

Nomonde Gongxeka Seopa holds a Master’s Degree in ICT Policy and Regulation from the University of Witwatersrand. She possesses over twenty-five (25) years’ experience in the broader media sector having worked in the space of content development, production & scheduling, and the broader broadcast media value chain. Most of the programmes that she has worked on span across television, radio, print and social media and were mostly supported by outreach programmes. She has had an opportunity to work for media development NGO’s, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) – where she occupied various positions, and also worked for MultiChoice Africa as Head: Africa Regulatory Stakeholder Management.  She is currently employed by the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) as Senior Manager: USAF & Broadcasting (Broadcasting Digital Migration).

Nomonde Gongxeka Seopa has authored a South Africa Chapter titled “South Africa’s Experience with Public Service Media” for the book titled “Public Service Media Initiatives in the Global South”. The book was published in July 2016 by the Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. She formed part of a research team that undertook the Africa Domain Name System (DNS) Market Study that was commissioned by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and was launched in July 2017 at ICANN 59.

Over the years, Nomonde Gongxeka Seopa has also presented, facilitated and chaired in a number of public discussions. These include, namely; the Inaugural Broadcasting Colloquium (2017); Africa Connect ICT International Conferences (2016 and 2017); AfricaCom Webinar (2017); RIPE Conference 2014, Tokyo, Japan and Commemorating Media Freedom Day to mark “Black Wednesday”, South Africa’s Parliament (2013). She is currently serving as an advisory Board Member at the African Leadership Academy (ALA). She also serves in the National ICT SMME Chamber housed under the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS). From 2013 – 2015 she was appointed as Chairperson of the South African National Adjudication Committee (NAC) for the SADC Media Awards. Between 2012 – 2014, she served as a member of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s (ICASA) Disability Consultative Forum. In the past, she has also served as Board Member of the Media Diversity and Development Agency (MDDA). Within the agency, she chaired the Finance and Operations Committee and also served in the Policy, Legislative & Regulatory Committee.
