Paris Mashile

Paris Mashile has held various positions in the communications industry, from being a lecturer and researcher to being in several leadership positions. As a councillor of ICASA in 2004, Mashile was responsible for addressing engineering and technology issues pertaining to spectrum licensing, new technologies and the  approval and certification of equipment. He has also chaired the Standards Liaison Committee, the Number Portability Plan Committee, Handset Subsidy Committee and the Frequency Band Plan Committee.

In 2005 he was appointed chairperson of ICASA, leading a team of eight councillors in making decisions about regulatory matters, including interconnection, the universal service obligation, protecting and promoting consumer interests, monitoring operator compliance, and managing scarce resources such as frequency spectrum.

Other positions that Mashile has held include being a founding CEO of Vunani Electronic Communications at Vunani Capital, non-executive director at Sentech Limited, and programme director for digital multimedia management and regulation at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

Mashile holds a BSc honours degree in physics and electronics engineering, and master’s degrees in physics and electrical engineering. He also completed several certificates in the communications and spectrum management fields, and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
