Susan Mboya

Dr. Susan Mboya is the President of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation and also the Group Director for Women’s Economic Empowerment for Coca-Colas Eurasia, Africa Group (EAG).

Susan Mboya leads the women’s economic empowerment programs and partnerships, for the Eurasia and Africa markets, under the 5by20 program, Coca-Colas global commitment to economically empower 5 million women by the year 2020. To date Coca-Cola has empowered over 1.2 million women, over 50% of whom are from the Eurasia Africa Region. Under 5by20 Susan has established a number of key programs and partnerships that have enables women’s economic empowerment at Scale, including the E.N.G.I.N.E (Empowering Nigerian Girls in New Enterprises), in partnership with DFID and the Yes Youth Can program partnership with USAID in Kenya.

As President of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF), Susan leads the deployment of the Foundations initiatives in over 50 countries across the Continent, including the signature Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN) that will provide water and sanitation to 6 million Africans by 2020, Project Last Mile, which is strengthening health systems across Africa, and the YES! (Youth Empowered for Success) initiative that will empower 25,000 young Africans by 2017.

Susan Mboya joined The Coca-Cola Company in September 2008 as the General Manager for Coca-Cola South Africa, where she was instrumental in turning around a business that was in decline.

Susan started her career at Procter and Gamble, as an Assistant Brand Manager in the Health Sector, and enjoyed a 14-year career in General Management at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati Ohio, where she worked in various roles in a number of sectors including Paper Products, Diapers and Healthcare, and Oral Care, including a pivotal role as Global Director for Oral B Brushing, during the acquisition of Gillette by P&G. Susan also worked for several years in the Customer/Sales organization working with Target, WalMart and other large chains.

Susan obtained her B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, and her MSc. and PhD.in Industrial Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston Massachusetts.

Dr Mboya has been the Chairman of Liberty Holdings, Kenya Limited since December 2012. She is also the Founder of the Zawadi Africa Educational Fund, a 501c (3) non-profit organization that has provided over $60 million in scholarships for 350 young African women from marginalized backgrounds at 66 top Colleges and Universities in the US, Canada and Africa. In 2003, Susan was inducted into the American Advertising Federations (AAF) Hall of Achievement and was named Ebony Magazine’s Marketer of the Year in 2004. In December 2010 Susan was awarded the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), by the President of Kenya, in recognition of her service to the empowerment of the country’s youth and women. In 2013, Dr. Mboya was recognized as an Internationalist of the Year, recognition that goes to 30 top marketers around the globe. Dr Mboya has been awarded honorary Doctorates from Lakeland College (2009) and the University of Massachusetts in Boston (2016) for her work in empowering women and youth.

Dr Mboya is passionate about entrepreneurship, mentorship and women and youth development and continues to dedicate herself both in her public and private capacity to these causes.
