Andile Maxwell Hawes

Andile Hawes was a Deputy Director-General: Production and Resource Management, with responsibility for the provision of strategic leadership and management in areas of agricultural production, land use and water management and engineering. He holds a BSc Agriculture (hons) from the University of Fort Hare, a diploma in practical accounting, a certificate in management accounting and a certificate in nematology. Earlier professional appointments include that of transformation manager for the Citrus Growers Association, where Mr Hawes established a transformation programme that resulted in increased participation and ownership by previously disadvantaged individuals in the value chain of the citrus industry.

He also served as a business development manager for the Mpumalanga Agriculture Development Corporation, where he worked on growing market opportunities for farmers within the lemon products, grape production, and cut roses sectors; as senior manager with the Ciskei Agricultural Corporation; and at the University of Fort Hare as a research farm superintendent.
