H.E Maj Gen (RTD) Gaudence Salim Milanzi

Maj Gen (Rd) Gaudence Salim Milanzi was appointed as the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Republic of South Africa, Republic of Botswana, The Kingdom of Lesotho and the SADC Secretariat in September 2019.

Before his current appointment, High Commissioner Milanzi served in different capacities in and outside his country including being the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism from 2014-2015, Commandant of the Tanzania National Defence College from 2016-2018 and Director of Research, History and Evaluation at the Defence Headquarters from 1994-2000. He has also served as Deputy Director and later the Director of the SADC Region Peacekeeping Training Centre based in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2000-2011.

High Commissioner Milanzi is a graduate of the University of Dares Salaam, Tanzania where he obtained BA in International Relations and Public Administration, and Post Graduate Diploma in Law in 1988 and 1989 respectively. He is also a holder of Master’s Degree in Strategic and Security studied from the Bangladesh University of Professionals where he completed his degree in 2012. He has attended a number of academic and Professional Seminars and Short Courses.

Milanzi is a keen follower of military history and International Relations issues and has traveled widely taking part in Peacekeeping, Civil-Military Coordination programs.
