Kabelo Ngakane

abelo “KB” Ngakane was born on 28 December 1976 in South Africa. He matriculated from Christian Brothers College in Pretoria and went on to do a diploma in Computer Software Support at Damelin Campus in Rosebank.

His early work at Channel O was behind the scenes and from 1998 to 2003 he worked as a runner, a scriptwriter and at one stage he was the head music scheduler at the station. From 1999 Kabelo came in front of the camera as a presenter, something which turned out to be his forte.

In 2000 KB was invited as a Channel O’s youth representative at the African Development Forum (ADF 2000) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was also a co-MC at the concert celebrating the United Nations AIDS Conference which was also held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2004 KB was included on the panel of judges at South African Music Awards.

Kabelo is a much sought after MC at events which include the Channel O Awards in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Some of his other highlights as an MC occured when he hosted the Channel O Urban Massive concerts (Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique); the Vodacom Springbreak 2006 (Sun City – Motorola Dinner); the Motofone Summer party (November 2006 Luanda, Angola); the Nu Metro Centre Launch 2005(Lagos, Nigeria) and the Heineken Star Final with 180 winners from around the world gathering at Pilanesburg in May 2008.

KB has not only succeeded in the television industry, his talents spread to the world of radio as well. His career in radio includes work with Metro FM where he was the co-host on the morning show from 2003 to 2004. He also worked at 5FM in 2006 as the station’s sports presenter. In 2007 KB hosted the Weekend Drive Show (The Asylum with KB 14h00 to 17h00) also on 5FM.

Kabelo utilises his knowledge of television to produce some of his own projects. In 2005 he did the presenting and producing for the Bob Marley 60th Birthday celebration. KB also produced a documentary for Channel O about the Africa Union youth symposiums also held in 2005. The talented young man was the producer and presenter for both seasons of Urban Massive (shot in 22 African countries) and he produced a documentary called “Speak Africa” which was commissioned by UNICEF.

Kabelo’s versatility spreads to music and he performed at the Survivor Africa Finale in 2006. He also recorded a kwaito collaboration with Bleksem on a song called “How Low Can You Go” where KB is featured as KrazyBoy. He also featured on the Big Brother Africa I soundtrack on the tracks “Hello Afrika” and “Take It Up”.

Kabelo has received various nominations for his work in the entertainment industry which include: South African Music Awards (2005) – Best Collaboration (Swerve, Shaluza Max, Caz, K.B. – Take It Up); Duku Duku Awards – Best Presenter; Stars Of Mzansi (2008) – Best Presenter; Channel O Music Video Awards (2007)– Best Collaboration (Bleksem ft KrazyBoy – How Low Can You Go)
