Kia Johnson

TV Presenter, Radio Personality, Motivational Speaker, Voice Actress, DJ and Eco Warrior. Those are a few of the roles used to describe Kia Johnson. Currently she hosts the new morning breakfast show ‘EXPRESSO’ on SABC 3 from 5:30am to 8am weekdays and with her fantastic energy and engaging personality she helps to kick start your day.

Known for her enthusiasm and ambitious nature she’s also currently a Celebrity Ambassador for the VOTE for TABLE MOUNTAIN campaign and an activist for the GivenGain Foundation,South Africa At City Varsity College she has a newly appointed role where she teaches TV Presenting enabling students with the necessary skills to realize their dreams.

I’ve been working as a radio presenter for about 6 to 7 years and as a TV presenter and researcher for 3 to 4 years. Looking back I never imagined that one day I would be in the media industry. When I matriculated I thought I would become a tycoon business woman owning the world or perhaps a doctor saving lives? After matric I studied B.Comm Human Resources in an effort to pursue the tycoon business woman dream I had. But when I look at myself today I believe that the media industry followed me where ever I was. Ever since my schooldays I was told that I have the “gift for the gab” and I found myself working odd jobs that involved me being close to music or literally talking on a microphone and I had and still have an intense love for music.

After quite a while I finally plucked up the courage to start working in radio (my first radio presenter job being at a retail radio station).

I then used this to gain experience and sent through my demo after which I landed a job in the commercial radio industry. In my second year of radio I landed a job as a TV presenter and researcher on “Take5” on SABC1. I also worked on “Susters” for the Channel MK89 as a TV presenter and researcher in Cape Town. So here I am and loving every minute of it! I currently do the shift at 94.5 Kfm on Monday’s 12am to 6am and Tuesdays to Fridays 2am till 6am.

I’m living proof that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You are able to be the greatest achiever you can be, so never let anyone tell you any different! In a way I am touching people’s lives and I am my own business, so maybe I did achieve all my dreams….
