Mbangiseni Nepfumbada

Mr Mbangiseni Nepfumbada was appointed to his current position in 2010 after serving in senior management positions in the Department of Water Affairs since 1999. He holds a MSc degree which researched the role of colloidal particles in the transport of contaminants, and is a graduate of the University of Natal and the University of Alberta in Canada. Mr Nepfumbada is a board member of the Council for Geosciences, an audit committee member for the South African Qualifications Authority, and chair of the advisory board for the South African Environmental Observation Network.

He is also chairperson of the South African national committee for the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation international hydrological programme, (IHP), and between 2008 and 2010 represented the sub-Saharan region in the IHP.Mr Nepfumbada served on the council of the Soil Science Society of South Africa from 2007 to 2011. He has presented in various meetings and seminars on a wide range of topics, mainly on water issues. Prior to joining Water Affairs, Mr Nepfumbada was at the University of Pretoria where he worked as a scientist doing research and lecturing.
