Mukovhe Morris Masutha

Mukovhe Morris Masutha is the Executive Director at the Centre For Emerging Researchers (CER) and Founder and CEO of Thusanani Foundation. He holds a BA in Economic Geography and a BSc Honours in Geography, Food Security and Environmental Management from the University of the Witwatersrand. He started his career as a Policy and Strategy Analyst at the City of Tshwane’s Division of Economic Intelligence. He later left the city to volunteer and help build Thusanani Foundation (NPO), a non-profit organisation aimed at improving the access, retention and completion rates and experience of youth from socio-economically marginalised communities at higher education institutions.

In 2010, Mukovhe was elected Chairperson of the South African Students Congress and President of the Students Representative Council at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He served on the University’s Council for Readmissions Committee for 7 years.

He Holds a BA in Economic Geography and a BSc Honours in Food Security and Environmental Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. He completed a Masters of Science in Local Economic Development and SMMEs at the University of Johannesburg and is currently completing a PhD in Higher Education Management at the University of Bath’s International Centre for Higher Education Management (ICHEM).

Other than volunteering at Thusanani Foundation, Mukovhe serves as a director of Green Schools South Africa (GREENSSA), a company focused on the providing Renewable Energy Skills Development and the application of renewable energy solutions to meet the energy and developmental needs of rural and township communities. Mukovhe sat annually on Wits University’s Council for Readmissions Committee for the past 7 years and now as Alumni. Mukovhe feels morally obligated the South African government and the people of South Africa for educating him for free, hence Thusanani Foundation. Mukovhe is a prospective PhD candidate in educational policy and leadership.
