Phonixthecool

Lunga Khumalo, better known as “Phonixthecool”, is a South African Musician and Songwriter and Raised in the City of Durban. He is known for his unique musical rap style and combining elements of old school Hip Hop and West Coast influenced flows into a more modern type of rap.

Influenced by the daily Hip Hop Songs Played by his dad and Uncles, Phonixthecool was exposed to Hip Hop at a very young age, and since Fellinlove with the culture.

Exposed to artists like The Game, Snoop dogg, Ice cube and the whole west coast scene Phonix took it up on himself to start writing raps the way his role models did.

He started off as a Dancer and sooner branched out to writing his own music.At age 13 he started rapping and by age 14 he formed a Hip Hop RapCrew Called “Mainiax Crew” consisting of close friends he made music with until 2017.

MainiaxCrew Helped Shape and Navigate his way around the music scene in Durban. 

In 2018 Phonixthecool Chose to go Solo and drop his First Individual Mixtape titled “PHOTOSHOPPED” which includes an Extended Version too. “PHOTOSHOPPED” includes Songs that showcase his versatility and growth as a artist.

This Project caught the attention of many Big Names including One of his Idols US rapper “THE GAME” Commenting his thoughts on the Project and Featuring Him on his mixtape titled “GAME OVER” which was made to put on upcoming artists hand picked by THE GAME.

That bought Phonixthecool a lot of industry attention and since then saw his Song “On The Sektion”Chart in the UK and US Artists like Fat Joe, Kevin McCalland Eric Bellinger reaching out to him Phonixthecool has since flourished in his career.

In 2021 he was announced as one of the signees for Def Jam Recordings Africa and proceeded to be selected as one of the two African artists to feature on Snoopdogg’s Algorithm Global Edition Album.

This feature put Lunga on the map and gained him a seat at tables he always dreamt of being in.

Phonixthecool starts kickstarts the year with the release of his new single titled “No Stopping” which is an affirmation of what he promised himself “when I start , there wont be no stopping” 

Phonixthecool is expected to create and release more music in future and possible feature his icons as well.
