Simon Jacob ‘Mighty’ Mgidi
Mr Simon Mgidi was appointed to his current position in December 2005. He holds a BAdmin (Hons) degree from the University of the North.
Mr Mgidi was previously a regional director at Lawyers for Human Rights, before joining government as director of administration for the Department of Education. Highlights of his career include serving as a member of the national negotiating team at Codesa, and being a member of the Constitutional Assembly from 1994 to 1996.
Mr Mgidi has represented South Africa in the Organisation of African Unity, at the Commonwealth Parliamentary As sociation, the International Parliamentary Union, and at the United Nations in New York. He is a chairperson of the technical cluster committee on governance and criminal justice, a position he has held for the past six years.
