Sipho Sithole

Sipho Sithole

Dr. Sipho Sithole is a cultural strategy consultant and a Research Fellow at the Johannesburg Institute of Advanced Study (University of Johannesburg) and holds a PhD in Anthropology from Wits University, a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, as well as a Political Science and International Relations degree from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Sithole currently serves on the boards of the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC), the South African Cultural Observatory (SACO), and the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), and has previously served on the boards of Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA),Momentum (a subsidiary of Firstrand Ltd), and Nu Metro Africa.

A founder of Native Rhythms, as well as Afrocentric Agency, Dr. Sithole   is a regular speaker at arts and society conferences around the world and is currently working on two books: on music & society, cultural spaces and the creative economy.  His research interests are marginality and belonging, culture and celebration, migration and integration, post coloniality and re-imagining, as well as culture-led cities and the creative economy.
