Frank Leonel Tianyi Tianyi

Tianyi Tianyi Frank Leonel is a medical doctor who has spent over four years working in poverty-stricken rural areas in Cameroon. Tianyi is currently the chief medical officer in the Mayo Darlé sub-division hospital. He identified that poor health is a major obstacle to development and economic growth in the sub-division. As such, he focuses on preventive and health education programs to improve the health conditions of disadvantaged populations in the area. Frank Leonel Tianyi Tianyi believes that designing and implementing evidence-based and context-specific preventive approaches to health care delivery in Africa can significantly improve health outcomes and resolve the inequalities faced by poor rural inhabitants. Childhood anemia is a major cause of mortality in Mayo Darlé, so Tianyi designed an iron supplementation project for children less than five years of age. This project reduced the mortality rate of children under five years old. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Tianyi plans to geographically expand his iron supplementation project and design similar preventive programs to address other health problems in his country.
